FTMO vs FundedNext: the 2-Step challenges
The two 2-Step challenges share the same loss limits on a $100,000 account: a 5% daily loss limit and a static 10% maximum loss, with no time limit. The differences are in the targets and the trading days:
| $100,000 2-Step | FTMO Challenge (2-Step) | FundedNext Stellar 2-Step |
|---|---|---|
| Fee (regular price) | €540, refunded with the first reward | $549.99, refunded with the first reward |
| Profit targets | 10% and 5% | 8% and 5% |
| Daily loss limit | 5%, from the balance at midnight CE(S)T | 5% of the initial balance, reset at midnight server time |
| Maximum loss | 10%, static | 10%, static |
| Minimum trading days | 4 per phase | 5 per phase |
| Profit split | 80%, up to 90% | 80%, up to 90% (95% with a paid add-on) |
FundedNext’s lower phase 1 target (8% against 10%) makes its first phase shorter in profit terms. FTMO’s daily limit is measured from the balance at midnight, so it moves with the account; FundedNext’s is fixed to the initial balance, with profit made earlier in the day added to the day’s allowance: prop firm drawdown rules.
FTMO vs FundedNext funded account rules
The funded accounts differ more than the challenges. FTMO’s Standard funded account restricts trading two minutes either side of selected news and requires positions to be closed before the weekend, but its Swing type removes both restrictions, and expert advisors are allowed. FundedNext allows weekend holding, but caps open risk at 3% of the initial balance, counts only 40% of profit from trades around high-impact news and does not allow expert advisors on accounts of $50,000 and above.
FTMO vs FundedNext payouts
FTMO allows a first reward request from the 14th day after the first funded trade. FundedNext’s default schedule on Stellar 2-Step pays the first reward after 21 days and then every 14 days, with faster schedules available at checkout at a different profit split. FTMO states that it has paid over $650 million in rewards since 2015 and FundedNext over $389 million since 2022; neither says its figure is independently audited.
FTMO vs FundedNext: which suits which trader?
- FTMO may suit traders who use expert advisors, want a firm with a longer track record, or want a funded account without news restrictions (the Swing type).
- FundedNext may suit traders who want lower first-phase targets, the lowest-fee option (Stellar Lite) or a static drawdown on a one-step challenge.
