Pip Value Calculator

A pip value calculator tells you how much money one pip of price movement is worth for your position. Choose the currency pair, your account currency and your position size in lots.

How pip value is calculated

Pip value
pip value = pip size × position size (units) × quote-to-account rate

The pip size is 0.0001 for most pairs and 0.01 for pairs quoted in Japanese yen. The quote-to-account rate converts the pair's quote currency (the second currency) into your account currency; it is 1 when they are the same.

Worked example

1 standard lot of EUR/USD on a USD account: 0.0001 × 100,000 × 1 = $10 per pip.

1 standard lot of USD/JPY at 150.00 on a USD account: 0.01 × 100,000 ÷ 150 = about $6.67 per pip.

Frequently asked questions

How much is one pip worth on a standard lot?

When the pair is quoted in your account currency, such as EUR/USD on a USD account, one pip on a standard lot (100,000 units) is worth exactly 10 units of that currency. For other pairs the value depends on the exchange rate between the quote currency and your account currency.

Why is the pip size different for JPY pairs?

Most pairs are quoted to four decimal places, so a pip is 0.0001. Pairs quoted in Japanese yen are quoted to two decimal places, so a pip is 0.01.

Why does pip value change over time?

If your account currency is not the quote currency of the pair, pip value has to be converted at the current exchange rate, so it moves whenever that rate moves.
