Frequently asked questions

What time does the forex market open?

The forex market opens for the week on Sunday at 5:00 PM New York time, when trading begins in Sydney and Wellington, and closes on Friday at 5:00 PM New York time.

What is the best time to trade forex?

Liquidity and volatility are usually highest when the London and New York sessions overlap, roughly 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM New York time. Spreads on major pairs are typically tightest then.

Is the forex market open 24 hours?

Yes, from Sunday evening to Friday evening New York time the market trades around the clock as financial centres in Asia-Pacific, Europe and North America open and close in turn. It is closed on weekends.

Do forex session times change with daylight saving time?

Each session keeps its local hours, so its time in UTC shifts when that centre changes its clocks. Because the US, UK and Australia change on different dates, the gaps between sessions shift for a few weeks each spring and autumn.
